Tread Lightly! is a national non-profit organization dedicated to protecting recreation access by promoting responsible recreation. ECOJOCS takes these principles seriously — they're the reason we still have the trails we love.

T

Travel Responsibly

Stay on designated roads, trails, and areas. Avoid sensitive areas. When in doubt, don't go. Respect trail closures and posted regulations.

R

Respect the Rights of Others

Respect the rights of hikers, equestrians, and other recreationists to enjoy their experience undisturbed. Yield to non-motorized users. Be considerate of neighboring landowners and communities.

E

Educate Yourself

Before you head out, learn the rules and regulations for the area you plan to visit. Be prepared for emergencies. Minimize your risk and the risk to those around you.

A

Avoid Sensitive Areas

Stay out of designated wilderness areas, avoid streams, lakeshores, wetlands, and meadows when possible. Avoid fragile soils and plants. Stay on the trail when it is wet or soft to prevent widening.

D

Do Your Part

Pack out all trash. Minimize campfire impacts. Report violations. Volunteer for trail maintenance. Be an ambassador for responsible recreation everywhere you go.
